EION Launches Lowest-Cost-Per-Byte 5GHz Broadband Radio

FCC, CE and Industry Canada Certified LibraPlus product ready worldwide

Ottawa, Canada, March 18, 2008 — EION Wireless, a global provider of Broadband Wireless products today announced the launch of LibraPlus 5845, EION’s next generation 45Mbps 5GHz platform. One of the key advantages of the LibraPlus radio is that it provides Instant-Installation of wireless backhaul and access to operators and enterprises in the unlicensed frequency bands at lowest cost. This platform is built on more than a decade of EION’s OFDM experience.

Packaged in the familiar EION rugged all-weather enclosure and loaded with security features, the fully featured LibraPlus comes complete with integrated bridging and routing software plus extensive network and polling support.

The FCC and CE certified LibraPlus radio is already in use in field trials by several of EION’s Certified Gold partners in the Middle East and Africa regions. EION’s Gold Partners trialing the radios have already placed further orders with EION to expand their initial LibraPlus deployments.

EION's LibraPlus product family includes Rapid Deployment (RD) and Extended Range (ER) radios for point-to-point backhaul applications, and Base Station (AP) and (CPE) radios for Multi-Point (MP) coverage applications.

The LibraPlus family is ideal for bandwidth hungry video surveillance applications, rural deployments and metropolitan area networks. It is packaged in a familiar enclosure that has been battle-tested and proven with other EION Libra products. By leveraging EION’s proven OFDM radio design and Libra rugged enclosure, EION was able to reduce the time required to produce the rugged, reliable and feature rich LibraPlus 5845 product family.

LibraPlus 5845 was found to have the lowest cost-per-byte for 5 GHz broadband access radios in the 0 to 45 Mbps range. The study compared radios from six vendors, using a configuration of ten CPEs per Base Station. In addition to having the lowest cost-per-megabyte, in fifty percent of cases the price performance ratio of the LibraPlus was at least half that of the other vendors on the market.
