EION Wireless Upgrades Fixed Wireless Access Products
VIP 110-24 Release 2.1.0 Feature Key includes Web Interface and VLAN support
Ottawa, Canada – February 28, 2007 –EION Wireless
a global provider of broadband wireless and communications products and
WiMAX technologies is announcing the release of a significant upgrade
to its popular VINE based VIP 110-24 fixed wireless access products.
Release 2.1.0., the feature key being released with the upgrade, contains
new features that add to the usability and extend the applications of
the radio.
EION’s VIP 110-24 is easy to install, operates
over long distances, overcomes many Non-Line of Sight (NLOS) obstacles
and provides economic performance and capacity in the license-exempt
2.4 GHz frequency band. Release 2.1.0 of the product features a user-friendly
web interface, VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) support, Plug-and-Play
capability, E-mail Alarms and much more. The web interface provides all
the same functionality as the CLI, but in a familiar point and click
environment. Plug and play allows network operators to add new nodes
to a network without having to connect the radio to a computer – the
antenna alignment is fine tuned though a series of audible tones, and
configuration scripts and files can be loaded onto the new the VIP node
over the RF connection. Integrated VLAN support in the radio allows service
providers to create services to corporate clients without the need to
add any additional hardware infrastructure to the network.
The VIP 110-24, acquired by EION Wireless from Wi-LAN
Inc. in 2006, uses patented anypoint-to-multipoint VINE (Versatile
Intelligent Network Environment) technology which permits the implementation
of long distance, medium subscriber density broadband Internet access
networks a node-at-a-time. VINE networks deal with Non-Line of Sight
(NLOS) limitations in a cost-effective manner by using established network
nodes as repeaters for other nodes that either do not have Line-of-Sight
or are too distant to have direct connectivity to the Internet node.
VINE networks can have significantly lower implementation costs than
conventional cell based networks particularly when covering large sparsely
populated areas.
Recognized for its ruggedness, durability and quality,
EION’s VIP 110-24 is widely used by Service Providers to create local
area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), Voice over Internet Protocol
(VoIP) and SCADA connectivity for customers in the oil and gas sector. EION’s
rugged wireless equipment has the ability to operate in harsh climates and
difficult terrain.
The VIP upgrade is being released in two parts – a
firmware upgrade to v2.60.00 and Feature Key 2.1.0. The firmware upgrade
is recommended for all VIP 110-24 radios, it can be downloaded from the
EION Wireless website at www.eionwireless.com. Customers wanting to get
the full functionality of the Release 2.1.0 feature key must purchase a
Release 2.1.0 Feature Key license from EION Wireless or through a Certified
EION Wireless Channel Partner.
