EION Introduces Mesh Network Solution

OTTAWA, Canada; January 28, 2006 – EION Wireless, a leading provider of broadband wireless equipment, announced that it will be offering a self-healing, auto-configuring Mesh Network Solution designed for complete wireless coverage in urban or campus environments. The EION Mesh Network is composed of three main elements, the Ranger 3020 Wireless Access Point, the Ranger 3030 Wireless Bridge, and the Ranger 3050-WG Wireless Gateway. The entire solution operates over the unlicensed spectrum on proven 802.11a/b/g technology for straightforward and reliable connections to client devices.

EION’s Mesh Network is made up of a collection of dual-radio Ranger 3020 Wireless Access Points that perform the tasks of; data collection, data distribution, and data backhaul over the network. Data collection and distribution to and from client devices is sent via the 2.4 GHz 802.11b/g protocol, while data backhaul is sent over 5.8 GHz using a separate 802.11a radio. Due to the unique self-healing capability of the mesh network, if one Access Point fails, or if a backhaul path is blocked, the network automatically routes the data through an alternative path – increasing the reliability of the network.

The Ranger 3030 Wireless Bridge extends the backhaul capabilities of the mesh, or connects the Mesh Network to the nearest wired point of presence. The Ranger 3050-WG is the mobility anchor point of the Mesh providing best in class security for the network and end-users.

The fully ruggedized Ranger 3020 Wireless Access Points can be mounted easily to existing infrastructure such as; walls, utility poles and street lamps – cutting down on installation costs. The NEMA 4 rated Access Points are capable of withstanding extreme temperature ranges from -40°C to +50° C.
