EION Releases VoIP enabled Wireless Backbone to accelerate converged service deployment

New VoIP services will significantly reduce the cost of provisioning voice and removes complexity in managing multiple networks

Ottawa, Ontario, October 8, 2004 - EION Inc. announced today that its Rugged Wireless Communications Solution  (RWCS) is now VoIP enabled to allow customers the flexibility to provide data, video and now voice services over a single Wi-Fi network.  EION's RWCS-VoIP platform comprises of the Tidal Broadband Gateway and Ranger outdoor wireless products.  Tidal provides intelligent routing and traffic shaping capabilities for real-time applications such as voice, that includes bandwidth management, secure communications and support for mobility.  The Ranger point-to-point and point-to-mutlipoint products can be configrued as base stations, access points, or customer premise equipment. They are optimized for VoIP traffic to transport IP-based telephony applications through scalable and efficient bandwidth utilization.   Traditionally used for data applications such as file transfer, email and Internet connectivity, IP wireless networks are evolving to seamlessly enable Voice over IP telephony services.

"With this new capability, our customers can now enjoy the benefits of having voice telephony capabilities, within a single wireless infrastructure.   Wi-Fi/IP phones, enterprise or residential PBX systems, and Internet access are now integrated through our wireless solution, ultimately reducing the costs of provisioning these services," said Kalai Kalaichelvan, CEO of EION Inc.

EION has partnered with OMNIVON Inc., a provider of VoIP and Wireless VoIP business solutions, to deliver enhanced VoIP services and capabilities.  With voice, data and video traffic aggregation, EION's wireless solutions deliver carrier grade architecture and scalability, while supporting integrated business class applications such as call center, messaging and conferencing.  The consolidation of services and applications over a single network represents considerable cost savings to its customers, as well as provisioning mobility to its users.

"Combining EION's expertise in Wi-Fi networking solutions with our strength in IP-based telephony solutions and service provisioning, this partnership will allow us to provide end-to-end voice solutions to our customers by extending the reach beyond traditional wired infrastructure such as copper or fibre.  The true benefit of serving voice as an application will be realized through EION's RWCS-VoIP platform," commented Mushir Din, President, OMNIVON Inc.

EION's wireless products are currently being deployed by governments, enterprises and service providers around the world.
